With Bellator’s women’s 115 pound tournament in full swing, another exciting match happens tonight in Chicago. #4 ranked 125 pounder Zoila Frausto, who upset Rosi Sexton this past spring, faces the undefeated #5 ranked 115 pounder Jessica Pene.
Fightergirls interviewed Pene over at “Sportsgeeks” to talk about her preparation for this historical women’s tournament. She weighted in at 114 pounds, which wasn’t too tough, as she walks round a few pounds over 115. Her opponent Zolia Frausto weighed in at 115 pounds, and usually fights at 125 pounds. Even though Frausto is bigger in term of muscle, Pene isn’t too concerned.
“I really do see it as an advantage,” Pene commented. “I’m not stressed about my diet. I can work on everything I need and I have energy. I am maybe giving up a little bit of strength, but not much.”
Being 7-0 going into the fight, Pene stated she learned from being tested from her previous opponents, and sees Frausto as another person to gain experience from.
“I think Zoila brings a challenge to people,” Pene expressed. “Every opponent that I have has brought a different challenge and she’s no exception.”
When it comes to training for the tournament, Pene is changing her strategy very little, although she has been concentrating on being well rounded in the cage. She acknowledged that she is ready for anything.
“I try to be the most prepared as I can be,” Pene admitted. “It’s a mma fight so anything can happen.”
Bellator 25 is airing tonight on Fox Sports Net.
