This year’s ADCC World Championships will be the first ever to include a women’s division. Instead of qualifying, the women will be chosen by previous accomplishment and invited. From Brazil we will be seeing 3 competitors. Kyra Gracie, Leticia Ribeiro and Leka Vieira have all been chosen. The field in the U.S. and from other countries is not yet final and we will be keeping you up to date as the names are chosen.

I thought that some of you gals from here were going to compete at ADCC. Anyone have any news on that?

I didn’t know Kyra did No-Gi either. I believe the fighters can wear the gi but at a marked disadvantage against those who are in no-gi. All 3 stated fighters are gi specialists though Leka competed in a few significant no-gi matches. Has she recovered from her knee injury?

I got the info off of graciefighter.com I thought that it was weird as well because the girls mentionmed fought mostly gi. However didn’t Kyra just get done fighting a no-gi fight in Japan?

Does anyone know when they will release the names of the rest of those competing? How many are competing anyway?

    Well good luck ❗ 😀 ❗

I just read an interview on Kira Gracie in Grapple Mag and learned she has done wrestling and no-go. Leka I know does either. Leticia is the only one that I have not heard of doing no-gi. I haven’t officially heard but my assumption is Gazzy’s in. What about Erica Montoya??? I’ve assumed she was in also. Any news on anyone else in the mix?

I really hope the divisions aren’t divided at 130. That would suck. Because it’s not that good for me to go below 135 but I wouldn’t want to fight up..but then again, who else would be there? so far I’ve heard of light weights, and then some I know to be 135, like Debi, and I and…hmm.

The last I heard the divisions were:

2 weight classes competing, over 60 KG and under 60 KG’

    2 Tournaments / 8 Women / Single Elimination:
    60 KG and under (132 LBS -)
    60 KG and over (132 LBS +)

And an 8 competitor invitational ABSOLUTE tournament.

‘For starters, there will be 2 weight classes competing, over 60 KG and under 60 KG’ describes the spokesman. ‘These will be the first ever women’s matches under ADCC Submission Wrestling Rules.’
This was the first info released about it. I haven’t seen anything else about it.

    2 Tournaments / 8 Women / Single Elimination:
    60 KG and under (132 LBS -)
    60 KG and over (132 LBS +)

‘In addition’ continues the spokesman ‘The ADCC 2005 event will feature an 8 competitor invitational ABSOLUTE tournament for the ladies! In the men’s division, the ABSOLUTE is becoming the ADCC’s signature event, and it is the toughest submission tournament in any format ever. We wanted to extend that to the ladies division, so after the 2 weight class tournaments are complete, the ladies will be asked the question ‘Will you compete in the ABSOLUTE? 8 will be chosen for the ABSOLUTE from those that competed’.

When the rules have two weight divisions with one over 60kg and one under 60kg, that leaves out anyone weighing exactly 132lbs. 😆

this is going to be an awesome compitition!!

what i dont understand was what someone stated previously about allowing the gi. i dont think thats appropriate. its like going to the mundials and being allowed not to wear a gi, ya know…just my 2 cents 😕

oh and last time i checked kira didnt have a fight on her record.

Erica, spill the beans! Are you in?

I’ve never heard of Kira having a no-gi fight on her record. Just that she’s trained allot in wrestling and no-gi.

Anyone know any other names of ladies that are in for sure? So far we know:

    Kira
    Leticia
    Leka
    Gazzy

I have no confirmation but I “hear” Nori got an invite as well.

I saw it the rules on the Ad combat site:

“GI, Kimono & Wrestling Shoes are optional.
The mat area is 9 x 9 meters, no cage or fence.
If the fighters go out of this area the referee will restart the fight in the center of the mat, in the same position they were when they left the mat. If the fighters were standing , they will start again facing each other.”

Speculating who might be added to the group- Roxy, Erica, Nori (if she’s still competing), Felicia Oh, or possibly another Brazilian like Andrade or Michelle.

I thought Erica earned the spot from winning the Last Woman Standing also.

As I understand it the females representing Brazil are already chosen.

I read on anohter forum that Gazzy got her invite yesterday so we can add her name to the list of woman invited!
