first of all, i have nothing against them, i’m just asking me this question : do we need girls half nude to annouce a round ? why not boys with strings in their butt 😉 ? i just think it is unusefull to make a girl present a fight round half-nude, it is not a good image for some boys that think girls are just here to show their butt and not to fight in men’s world. why i am asking myself this question ? because i heard a boy saying that round girls were just fucking bitch dolls here to do the show just like girls in men’s fight (MMA, Boxing etc…) so when i heard that, i was angry at the time and then i thought he was a part right because we fight to get the respect in men’s world and because we love our sport but on the other hand, round girls do the opposite with such pictures they do etc… i repeat that i have nothing against them, they can do whatever they want but in a way, the guy i talked with were right : they are just here as groupie of men for some. i don’t say all round girls are like that but most of them tend to be it. i’m not happy as a fighter to be treated as if i were a round girl “groupie”. (i’m fed up hearing some guys saying : “oh! you’re practicing thaïboxing then it’s not your place, you’d better off being a round girls and suck fighters!! hehe it’s more a girl style!!mouhahaha a girl in thaïboxing!! and blablablabla”) 😥 i hate hearing that 😥 😥

I thought about this a lot, and was joking around with some people about ring boys for a women’s fight. He said that it’s perfectly fair. The guys get to see pretty women for 20 seconds between each fight, and us women get to watch half naked men battle and roll around for over an hour!! So it’s unbalanced to our (women’s) favor, according to him. Plus, if there were “ring boys” it would have a negative effect on the crowd. (my idea was for an all woman’s show, or for the one match on the women’s card) but there’s more guys than girls. Plus, it gets the crowd riled up, and gives energy to the house. I don’t think everyone thinks that way that that guy did about the “bitch dolls.” So although it’s irritating to me to see ring girls, I accept them and am not against them unless they start like…flashing people. (but yeah, they’re so annoying, but have their purpose).

i do think the same thing as you Rox and i’m happy not to be alone. they are very beautiful but don’t have a good image and most of men are rude with them and believe we all are like them. 🙁 that’s a pity

I think guys walking around in a thong would be bad, but a nice looking guy with his shirt off would be great 😆 And it wouldn’t scare too many people off- a guy in a thong can even freak out some girls.

I have some serious issues about where they get ring girls from though… the last show I went to the girls were all from a strip club and that’s where the after party was. Hello? I wasn’t the only woman there. What was even more funny is that the cover at the strip club was like $20 and you had to BYOB… so we all went back to the hotel and went to bed. I am NOT paying $20 just to see girls strip naked… sorry, no thanks.

And yeh- there are pretty girls places OTHER than the strip club, thanks…

Oh yeh… and then you have to listen to guys saying whether the chicks are ugly or cute… I mean… GRR… if I hear one more guy call a girl who is perfectly skinny fat I swear they’re getting kicked… or a girl who DOESN’T look like a replica of Barbie but who is otherwise good looking get called ugly…. I guess we expect the people we put up there to be models or something, but there’s no photo touchups in real life.

Please NO THONG dudes, (puke), although I must admit watching some guy run around the ring in a pink thong would make me laugh and ease the tension in the ring for sure.

NOW hot guys shirtless in long cami pants with beenies on, some possibilties there.

A couple of years ago my trainer/promoter decided that we were going to have ring girls at our show, well me and the other senior girls found out about it (and how much it cost) and went and confronted him. As it happens, at the time he was sitting on the floor, we all circled around him (there are about 5 of us) and started listing all the reasons why he should not have ring girls (pretty much the same things that have come up in here)… I’ve never seen him look so sheepish! I think it helped the fact that he was sitting down and we were all towering over him but man did we feel powerful when he said he’d abolish the idea… some of the guys in the club weren’t so grateful though!

I don’t really have anything against the concept- i was more pissed off about the large amount of money he was going to use to hire them from the local strip club, and that it could be spent better on getting more training gear or something for the club…

In my time I’ve seen a few occasions of ring-boys for female title fights, one was just like has been described with the shirt off and a nice body to perve at 8) I was gonna have one at my fight this last weekend (it was a bet i’d made with a guy from my club years ago at my first fight- we agreed that if either of us made it to a title fight we’d be the other person’s ring-boy/girl… lucky for me he’s stopped training hehe). anyway he was gonna do it, wearing a suit, but family committments came up and unfortunately he couldn’t make it….

I’ve seen some *good* ring girls at one show- they were dressed up in sportswear and trainers rather than tiny little skirts with huge high heels. They still looked gorgeous but didnt’ look cheap, and it didn’t feel like females were being degraded.

    Anthea (sorry for the ramble…)

I don’t have a problem with ring girls. The crowd enjoys them more than the fighters do and it looks good to the “casual fan”.

I think strippers do the best job of it because they know how to carry themselves (not to mention that stripper shoes look sooooo much better than big clunky platforms with bare legs).

As far as it being “degrading to women”, how can it be degrading when they chose to do it?

they chose to do it of course but they may think they are cool and that people are fond of them but in fact, people treat them like crap and think all girls are like them so it’s a bit disturbing while hearing that. their choice are their choice but they are not mine so i don’t wanna be associated to this job because of them. they can do whatever they want with their ass but i don’t wanna be a part of it in people’s mind. 🙄
a girl in sports’ wear is also as beautiful as a girl wearing a poor string hidden in her butt.

Ring girls don’t bother me…the ones at my fight got really into it and were swarming me asking all kinds of questions later…
I just wish they’d get some that look good, less the dents in their behinds and stuff.
Funniest thing I ever saw though….
A ring girl at one of the local I.C.E shows got in the cage in those big shoes and because the floor gives a little somewhat like a mat, she took about four steps before she ATE IT in front of everyone, at which point she began to cry, but finished the walk around the ring like a champ.
Anyway, Josh and I were at this club he works at the other night and one of the bouncers was talking to him about seeing his photos on Sherdog, and Josh said “Kellyn’s on Sherdog too, you should look up her pictures.”
So this asshole looks at me all condescending and says “What are you…a ring girl?” Then laughs. *sigh*

Wow- that has so many fun retorts … like, “while you were checking out pictures of other guys (who are concidentally half naked and wrestling with other men) on the internet, i was actually training. And you’re insulting ME?”

They don’t bother me at all in fact I think I’m usually the only girl sitting there clapping for the ring girls, it really embarrasses my husband though.

I know it takes a lot to get in there and fight and I can do that, but there is no way that you would get me in there in my undies, i think it takes guts to do that.

I also think it’s really funny because in some shows they drape themselves over the male fighters once the fights finished as they give out trophies but then when it comes to a female fight they don’t know what to do with themselves.

When I was fighting Jen at the IFC, my only fan base were all the ring girls, who for some reason (maybe being drunk?) thought I was the coolest thing since velcro….and also guys who worked at the event location liked me. for whatever reason. Everyone else was rooting for Jen. (like the whole house minus my coach) So I have a newfound respect for ring girls.

LOL @ myself ’cause I barely noticed who was cheering for who at the time.

Don’t care one way or the other. They are an obstacle to seeing what is happening to the fighters but only between rounds, like cars crossing while I’m stopped at a red light. I can usually put up with them like I can most of the human race.

I’d like to point out many mid to high level feeder shows get a fee from the clubs like a casino’s site fee. dl_angel was right on the mark but missed the money issue. I hear average is a club will give the promoter $500-1000 plus ring girls (more if video is involved) in exchange for holding the after fight at the club and mentioning it or better yet having the ring girls wear the club’s logo. For most shows that money buys two regional fighters or maybe one national one.

Case in point Carlao of AFC just posted on the UF that AFC’s afterfight will be held at “Tootsie’s”. I bet he didn’t mention it purely as info, I bet the check from Tootsie’s just cleared.

My brother and I were watching a UFC fight a couple weeks ago and the ring girl came on the screen for a little longer than usual. We both just sat there and then he turned to me and said,

“That is the most pointless, useless job anyone could have.”

I opened my mouth to say something……. and I realized he was absolutely right.
