This can always be a topic for discussion, as it is currently being discussed in the Judo Forum at . Various Judokas claim the BJJ is imperfect Judo and that BJJ came from Judo.

Judo, being a gi art, is not the prevalent grappling art in MMA. If one is not wearing a gi, it can be difficult to set someone up the a throw (nage). A lot of the ground grappling techniques, in both arts, are very similar in form.

What are your thoughts on which art is better for self-defense purposes?

    Rebel,

BJJ, hands down. Alhtough, I’ll admit, I am no expert in Judo. Do a search on the history of BJJ on google and you’ll get the story of how it evolved. Too much to get into tonight.
