Cage Rage this week announced its only bout between two female fighters for its March 8 event at Wembley Arena in London. Irish fighter Aisling Daley is now scheduled to face Turkish fighter Aysen Berik.

This marks the first time since Cage Rage 5 in February of 2004 that the promotion has put together a fight between two women. Carla O”Sullivan submitted Ruth Darbisher on that fight card midway through the first round.

Women’s MMA has slowly been gaining steam with promotions like Smack Girl in Japan pushing the sport forward and EliteXC, along with several smaller promotions, spearheading the move in the U.S.

Cage Rage, now that they have been acquired by EliteXC parent company, ProElite, Inc., may now be the promotion to accelerate the development of women MMA in the U.K.

This should be a great fight. Thumbs up to Cage Rage for getting female MMA on the card.

I don’t know much about her opponent, but Aisling Daly is a very talented up and coming fighter and this will be a great opportunity to showcase female MMA.
