grappling question

    was watching some videos of some no gi grappling. saw grappler on top in guard pushing down hard (almost punching) stomach of other person. is this legal??
    what is the point??

    Pushing down on the stomach? Won’t get you far with an experience grappler. Now if it looked like the stomach but was in fact the hips… then you might have something.

    Frank shamrock does a really effective guard break like that. Keeps elbows on hip bones pinched in so not vulnerable to kimora or armbar, and pushes right under the solar plexus with both hands while popping his hips backwards through the legs to pass. I’ve also seen him do this with his forhead right in the solar plexus and armsoutside the legs under the butt or opponent. Seems to work for him ok.

    If she was punching the stomach for MMA this could be a way depending on the fighters ab strength to try to get the person to open the legs….I would use this to do just that..but to submit..probably would not work..with most people..
