There already are psychiatrists that specialize in the study of fighting, violence, killing, those actions impact on society, etc.

I don’t get the psych talk here. What’s the mystery? The guys want to fight. That’s only been going on for millions of years across many species. The only difference is that there is less instinct and more emphasis on technique now. That is good when you learn defense; not so good if you practice precisely deliberately wrecking someone’s knee. To me there’s less psychological mystery to the will to fight than the mindset to spend many hours a day, every day, practicing.

The problem is that initially you had what a lot of the public want, basically two guys haphazardly trying to beat the shit out of eachother, with more instinct than technique and the gratifyingly (for some) messy results. Once you start getting “scientific” about it, it may give it legitimacy to the squeamish, but also can mean more serious injury that is deliberately, rather than haphazardly infllicted. What will be increasingly problemmatic, in my view, is the likelihood that the more you develop “technique” that injures, the more likely there re to be more and more rules banning this, that and the other thing, so you’re back to square one with a lot of regulations.

Right now anyone can set up an organization and “sanction” a fight as long as the state isn’t involved, which accounts for the dizzying number of “championships” people claim title to. Note that lifting the ban in states means it is being tolerated, not that it is being regulated, and sanctioning by a private operation is dubious. The promoters are taking most of the money and the fighters are getting the crumbs while taking all the risk. That sucks and there should really be some organization against it. Never mind what the poor girls get versus the relative gate. One guy calling all the shots and raking in the cash is not fair or just.
