I just received this info today. Anyone planning on going? (women compete for free!)
Part Two – Joe Moreira Submission Grappling Championship

The United States Federation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Joe Moreira would like to invite you to the Part Two-Joe Moreira Submission Grappling Championship, Sunday, August 22nd at Santa Ana High School, at 520 W. Walnut in Santa Ana, California, beginning at 10am. On July 10th, Joe promoted his first no-gi submission tournament. This event was a great learning experience for Joe and he was not satisfied with the quality of his first no-gi venture. Because of this, Joe has promised the grappling community that his next event would be greatly improved.

The first area of improvement will be to change the fee from $50 down to $35. To encourage more competitors to enter, Joe has decided to let all kids 12 and under and all females compete for no charge. Secondly, there will be 3 mat areas and nine available paid referees. This way, no referee will be forced to ref one of his own students and all mat areas should be operating at all times. In the last event, many people competed in two different skill levels causing much confusion (eg. intermediate also competing in advanced). This time, a competitor will only be allowed to compete in one skill level. There will also be some rule changes from the last event.

We would like to congratulate the advanced tournament champions from Part 1.
*150 – Rafael Garcia from Machado
*175 – Steve Magdaleno from Body shots
*200 and Open – Nick Ring from Canada
*225 – Dan Roco from Joe Moreira
*225 and over – Ricardo Teixeira from Joe Moreira

These champions and the champions from Part 2 have been offered a place in the new full contact event called “King of the Ring,” if they should choose to accept.

The following is tournament information for your use. The “Individual Registration Form” needs to be filled out and signed by each of your competitors. It is also very important that the instructor carefully review the rules with each competitor, because some of the rules may vary from other competitions. Rules will be demonstrated before the beginning of the tournament at 9:30am.

I’ll be in intermediate. Are you coming out for sure? I hope there’s a good turnout for this one! It’d be nice to have more than one fight (if any) for once!

Theres an intermediate division for women?? Usually there is just beginners and advanced. If that’s the case, I’d do intermediate. I would really want to see more women talking about the event and noting their attendance before I make a decision. It’s a lot of expenses to go over there and compete to just have one match ya know. 🙁

His info packet said there were 3 divisions for the adults, so I’m assuming it applies to women too.

I know how you feel about not wanting to go if you’ll only have one fight… especially since you’d have the travel expenses of coming over from FL. You should plan on coming to Vegas on November 6th for Grappler’s Quest. There’ll be plenty of girls there!!

Hey Karla! Yes, I’ll be there! 🙂

You should do it!! There’s always a great turnout at GQ, and Brian’s tourneys are always run so smooth. I’m sure you’d have more than one fight there.

I havent spoken to Brian in Ages! I need to call him and say hi. His partner Emelio actually moved down here to florida. I met him yesterday when he went to train at my academy. Have been to NAGA’s and other small tournies, I hear that grapplers quest is great. Either way, I need to start cutting weight. (bad ice cream, bad…) lol
