I have Julie Kedzie to take this one, she has been unstoppable since she joined the Jackson camp and Tonya always looses everytime she fights good opponents.

The only fights of Evinger’s Ive seen were ‘Carano vs. Evinger’ and ‘Ginelle Marquez-Lee vs. Evinger’…she lost to Carano at the end of round 1 (rear naked choke) and i think she choked out the other. Ive seen quite a few of Kedzie’s fights…Im going with Kedzie by decision…but Id love to see a finish by either 😛

I have to agree. I think Kedzie will take this one after a hard fought battle!

Does anyone else see Julie outwrestling Tonya the same way GSP outwrestled Koscheck after training with Greg Jackson?

Tonya`s interview is a very poor sportsmanship. I really can`t see Julie losing this fight. Even if Tonya gets the takedown she won`t be able to do anything with it because she doesn`t have good finishing skills. Surely Tonya is a good wrestler but I don`t think she can smoother Julie in a guard for 3 rounds (which is the only way Tonya can win). I see Julie winning by sub or TKO (Strikes).

Evinger won by rear-naked choke round 1. Not the way I expected the fight to go but grats to Tonya, way to finish :). And grats to both girls.

Hey koolpaw – We need to adjust our rankings. I’m thinking Tonya should move up to 8th and Julie fall to 9th….any thoughts?

    5- Vanessa Porto
    6- Hitomi Akano
    7- Sarah Kaufman
    8- Tonya Evinger
    9- Julie Kedzie
    10- Ginelle Marquez-Lee

Congrats to Tonya, I guess this proves that Gina’s last win wasn’t over a chump. I wonder what’s next for Tonya, Kaitlin Young maybe?

as a side note…not that it really matters much…Tonya was a bit overweight..i think it was 141.2. I guess some may say she pulled a Gina…lol. But I respect both Carano and Evinger…just curious if Evinger will suffer the same scrutiny Carano did over the weigh-in issue?

140 lbs: Julie Kedzie (139.7 lbs) vs. Tonya Evinger (140 lbs)

R1: Evinger scores the immediate takedown. Evinger tries a kimura and lands punches in Kedzie’s halfguard. Kedzie gives up her back. Evinger works for the rear naked choke and eventually gets it.

Evinger wins via submission (rear naked choke) – R1 (1:43)

well so much for Tonya’s subs being suspect (she’s finished with submissions before but some still felt she was just a “good wrestler”) She basically overpowered Julie from the get go (a nice throw, suprising how quick and violent it seemed) and then went straight for the armlock to transition to take Julies back and then the choke…just like that. Well orchestrated and executed. I think Julie thought she might stand and trade with her and I think she was caught off guard right from the initial throw, she fought the rear naked but Tanya was persistant and like I said overpowering. And yes Tanya was overwieght by I think .2 pounds. I would love to hear Julies side of things. I think it came down to a supperior strategy by Evingers camp myself not necessarily Julies ability in the ring because she has great skills she was just taken out of her game from the get go.
