Masako Yoshida To Face Megumi Fujii; Akaagi Meets Miki

Fujii, Yoshida to fight under full MMA rules

Masako Yoshida and Megumi Fujii will return to the G-Shooto ring in January to face one another in a Class B bout allowing the most common MMA rules such as punching an opponent’s head on the ground as well as no time limit on the ground. Also announced was a Class B bout between Toshimichi Akagi and Ryuichi Miki, the winner of Shooto’s 2006 Batamweight Rookie Tournament, a Class C+ bout between Kayo Nagai and Maho Muranami, and a clash of upstarts between Chie and Nanako Yamaseki.

Yoshida won G-Shooto’s Straweight (48KG) tournament in June when she won a majority decision a close split decision over AACC’s Ikuko Tamada in a back and forth bout. Since, she’s defeated up-and-comer Eri Kaneya after proving the better overall fighter submitted Emi Tomimatsu in October. She will be stepping into the ring, however, after a decision loss to Naoko Ohmuro on Smackgirl’s November 29 card where Yoshida could not develop a response to Ohmuro’s wrestling and control of position under the same ruleset for her upcoming bout. Fujii offers many of the strengths of Ohmuro and will also enjoy a strength and size advantage as the bout will take place at Fujii’s home of 52KG. Yoshida must overcome her passive approach to strategy and offense as Fujii is one of the most intense fighters in the women’s world of fighting.

Toshimichi Akagi may see the light of a Class A license if he defeats Rookie Champion Miki. His competition will prove highly resistant though as Miki sports strong takedown defense and competent stand-up.
