Hi I know the pro rules in the US as they are the same in the UK but what is amateur in the US.

In the UK/Europe we also have amateur and semi pro but I never see semi pro mentioned on US sites.

Amateur = no headshots at all in fight.
Semi pro = headshots when standing but not when grounded.

US Amateur seems to be the same as UK semi pro and that is why Sherdog and FC Fighter seem to have problems.

    Any help???

I really think the rules differ according to the promotion but I have a friend who puts on amateur shows and the rules are the same as the UFC. Basically (other than the normal stuff; eye gouging, fish hooking, groin shots, etc.) no kicks or knees to the head of a downed opponent. A downed opponent is described as having three or more points of contact with the floor.
There’s a show in Ohio with similar rules except that the downed opponent can’t kick either.
    Hope this helps.
