I just wanted to tell you guys that I was promoted to a brazilian jiu-jitsu purple belt last night, under Joao Amaral (student of Crezio gracie) and the Boston Top Team! 😀

Can’t wait to go to the Pan Ams! *dance dance*

congratulations. Hard to believe how well you’ve fought with only being a blue belt (now purple).

    Congrats 😀

Could someone give me an order of the belt colours? (i know black is the best but that’s about it) i’ve always wanted to know so that i can give the appropriate amount of *impressedness* when someone tells me what colour belt they are!

    Thanks 😀

I thought the usually ritual was to paint your nails purple 😆

Congrats!! Ya know..it would be cool if the martial arts belt ranking would be similar. Ours goes: white, yellow, orange, purple, blue, high blue, green (which you have to spend 6-8 months at), brown (which is another 8 months) then black. I just made high blue myself..so when I do make black..it will be well earned since we have to spend so much time at each rank.

I know what you mean. The art I trained in went: white, yellow, orange, blue, blue w/ stripe, green, green w/ stripe, brown 1, brown 2 brown 3 and then black. It took me 6 1/2 years to reach my black belt!!!

6 1/2 years??? Wow…makes you appreciate it more. There is one school…Universal Studios of Self Defense under Steve Matteras…they move you up so fast in belts that you cant possibly know much. They only compete between themselves and are all about the money. If I were still with them, I would be homeless because all my money would go to them (490 per month for 3 of us) but I would be a black belt. I mean, they are a nationwide chain but is it really just about the money?
