Promoting a show is a tough job — and no one knows that more than Ring of Combat mastermind Lou Neglia. With over a dozen fighter dropouts whittling down what had initially been a massive fight card, the current roster is nothing less than miraculous, and forged from a whole lot of toil, sweat and scrambling. Slated for March 19th at the Asbury Park Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey (and not at the now-defunct Rexplex Center in Elizabeth as originally planned), Ring of Combat 8 will showcase some game rookies as they step up to the plate for the first time, see the return of a few champions, and pit the best female warriors in the Northeast against each other. Here’s a look at some of the fighters:
Laura D’Auguste — Team Tiger Schulmann
With a rear choke over Amanda Buckner at Reality Fighting 7, this tough Team Tiger Schulmann standout avenged the only blemish on her record (a draw). There are few challenges left for D’Auguste, who has taken on all comers and come out on top, but at Ring of Combat 8 she faces her toughest opponent to date: submission specialist Roxanne Modafferi. Does the expert ground-and-pounder have what it takes to keep up her winning streak?
Roxanne Modafferi — New England Submission Fighting
A Beantown native who’s fought in Japan more times than she’s fought in the States, Modafferi is coming off her second consecutive win over top-ranked lady fighter Jennifer Howe — a feat that’s proven she’s got some serious skills. With a strong jab and a dangerous guard, she is very capable of snatching away D’Auguste’s Ring of Combat Championship belt. Who will end up with the title in this “New York versus Boston” match-up?
