Shelby traveled to Japan to fight Emiko Raiko for a 10 round title match which took place May 23rd.
I don’t know all details – just that she was TKO’d in the second round. Here is a relevent link to the story….

I was a bit surprised @ that article…Sue’s site is USUALLY pretty objective. You don’t read too much stuff like that on there. But damn, they really tore her down. It has nothing to do w/ Shelby – there are A LOT of female (and male) fighters that think they are much better then they really are. But if you have a record of 10-0 but you’re combined opponents records are 1-25…then you really aren’t anything to begin w/.

I think there’s another MMA girl who fights whose record is 8-0 or 9-0…I think her opponents combined rec. is 0-13-1 LOL So what does that say? Who you fight determines how good you REALLY are.

Nice point but it would have been stronger and more complete if it had Shelby’s or Raika’s point of view, even from managers. At least try so you can put in something like “could not be reaced for comment” or “declined to comment”. Wth that nitpicking aside I thought it was exactly what needed to be said.

I was told Shelby was toying with the idea of a rematch against me.

    “What do you mean?”

I have the opinion that Shelby should not take high profile MMA matches until she improves her ground game further.

Furthermore, I think the “I’ll fight anyone” attitude is cool, somtimes, but in Shelby’s case, it’s not helping her improve as a fighter.

So, Knockout – you “saw” the fight? Or were you kidding?

There are definitely some girls w/ “lower” records who could definitely fight “high level” fighters. Shelby is not one of them.

Damn. Truth hurts, eh? But you know, at least Walker is out there doing it, which is more than I can say at this point.
Do you thinkher manager/promoter is to blame??

Yeah I was at the revolution show. I saw Tara beat Shelby pretty handily. I also saw Tara beat Angela Wilson in the New Wind show (I think it was called).

I used to live in Louisville, Kentucky before moving to Tucson, Arizona back in 2003. That is about 1.5-2 hours drive to Evansville. I’ve been to quite a few HnS shows. I also had a couple training partners that competed in HooknShoot and the Tell City Amateur tournament event.

Greatlaughter, I don’t know who is Shelby’s manager, but I would imagine (for some reason) that her management (if it exists) doesn’t play a big role in choosing opponents for her. I’ve always thought Shelby is probably a person who wants to be known as a fighter who will fight “anywhere, anytime” even if it’s not in her best interest. I don’t know Shelby’s full history…whether she’s ducked anyone or not…but that is how she appears to me. I think it’s better to fight “appropriate” fights when you are trying to move up in a division.

Of course, if you’re champion, you fight whoever they put in front of you.
