The Friday before Nov. 2004’s Hook’n’Shoot Evolution show, she came into my work asking for directions. That was before I knew who she was. I wish I did know before, I would have had a lot to talk to here about.

    🙁

Sympathy goes out to her friends and family.

I couldn’t believe it…my friend messages my cell phone to tell me. It was ruled a suicide? I didn’t know that… Rest in Peace

This really is sad news and my heart goes out to her friends and family as they deal with this loss. Both the mma and boxing communities have lost a good competitor and spokeswomen in Shelby. As for the talk of it being a suicide I wouldn’t jump to those conclusions just yet, just because pain pills were involved doesn’t prove anything. I will wait for an official statement before believing that a fighter with so much heart in the ring would just lay down for the count and give up her life.

When I got the phone call telling me that Shelby had been found dead I was driving my coach, his wife and a teammate back from a show in Bend, Oregon. I had to pull off to the side of the road, and get out. At first I thought it was a joke… I wish it had been.

Shelby and I fought back in 2001, and we actually had a legitimate beef at the time. She got a rise outta me every time she posted at me, whether I showed it by responding or not… 😆 In later years after it had cooled down, and sometime around 2004, I saw where a couple of the much heavier girls with way more experience were pickin’ at her. I wanted so badly to post and tell her, “I got your back.” …I took the advise I was given and didn’t get involved. 🙁 Several times I had seen something on the net about boxing or MMA… or I had a question about ATT that I figured she might have an answer to, I thought about emailing her… but I never did. 🙁

In recent years we had seen each other at a couple events, and exchanged smiles and waves. I thought it was kewl when she decided to quit fighting and go into announcing and commentary. I actually had hoped to see her at a show in Atlantic City, and say something… but again, it never happened.

I know she’s up there lookin’ down on all of us just lovin’ all this attention she’s getting. LOL…That’s what she dug. She’s probably teachin’ the angels boxing and submissions. Keep trainin’ and keep the ring warm for me Shel… we’ll have a rematch someday.

    😥

Rest in peace….Thats so sad, I feel for her mother and family. Recently one of my training partners died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. It was shocking and I had just talked to him, we all just talked to him…. It was tragic and he was victim. My heart aches when I think how someone feels to really do that. Jerzey, that was a great post. I actually thaught immediatly about you, as wierd as that may be…
    Rest in Peace
