Smackgirl has announced the first three fights for their May 3rd card, consisting of elimination bouts in their Next Cinderella Tournament. The tourney is aimed at highlighting rookie fighters with few or no fights to their name and proved a success in its inaugration in 2005 crowning champions at 58 and 48 kilograms in Hitomi Akano, the hot young prodigy from AACC who drew with Debi Purcell in February, and Kayo Nagai, respectively. It was also announced that KM-MAKI would not be making an appearance on the card due to an injury sustained in training.

In the first of the three middleweight bouts, Yui Tatsubun will meet Kanako Takeshita. Takeshita is a three time All Japan Women’s Featherweight Grappling Champion and and the 2x Pankration Grappling 60 kilogram Champion, holding wins over Yasuko Mogi and WINDY Tomomi. Tatsubun is 3-1 in Smackgirl competition while Takeshita is making her professional debut.
Also, Kazu Moroboshi will meet Miyuki Ariga Moroboshi is 2-1, her only loss being to the talented Takayo Hashi, in Smackgirl competition while Ariga is 0-1. Moroboshi has demonstrated strong takedowns and a preference for the armbar in her fights, which she’s finished her opponents in variation with. Ariga loss to Yuka Tsuji most recently at the February 4th GCM: MARS card.

Finally, T-BLOOD femme Miki Morifuji will battle Mizuho Sato. Morifuji’s return to Smackgirl has been marked by two victories over Yui Tachiwaki and Japan Cup 2002 lightweight semi-finalist Yumiko Sugimoto. Notable T-BLOOD members include Shooto World Welterweight Champion Tatsuya Kawajiri and Shooto Pacific Rim Welterweight Champion Mitsuhiro Ishida. This will be Mizuho Sato’s second career fight.

Morifuji’s a tough wrestler I hear, what’re Sato’s comfort zones, I do believe she’s a rookie seeing as I’ve never seen a fight of hers

Mizuho lost…the other girl Miki was TOUGH. Second round, ref stoppage. She just got overwhelmed by strikes. Looks like I know how to train her next…

Takeshita (my second teammate) won against the muay thai girl. The other girl kept kicking, and Takeshita kept punching and won by unanimous decision.

Everyone else, I wasn’t paynig attention, haha. Um Seri won by decision (probably unanimous)

All you ppl who take fights @ 58kilos should take notice:

Moroboshi and Morifuji are GOOOD. They’re definitely going to be the finalists. Moroboshi has strong wrestling shots and natural sub skills as she’s ended all her wins by armbar. She lost to Takayo Hashi, but Hashi is almost starting to become a figure of myth: she’s talented as hell but you rarely get to see her.

Morifuji trains @ T-Blood with Tatsuya Kawajiri and Mitsuhiro Ishia, and it shows. Her wrestling is tops and she packs a punch. Watch your back, ladies.
