Article By Grace Keister

Leslie "The Pacemaker" Smith will of Pleasanton California has signed a multi-fight agreement with the women's world championship Mixed Martial Arts and will face off against Jennifer Maia of Curitiba, Brazil at Invicta 6 on Saturday, July 13 in Kansas City, Missouri. Smith will drop from bantamweight (135lbs) to flyweight (125lbs) for this highly anticipated match up, sure to be an exciting one. An instant fan favorite, Smith has had two "Fight of the Night" performances, making her bout against Maia likely to be a number one contender's matchup. Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp said of Smith, "She is a true warrior as is her opponent Jennifer Maia, so we are looking forward to an explosive matchup between two of the sport’s stars on what will be Invicta FC’s biggest fight card to date.”
Smith (5-3-1) fought in the inaugural Invicta FC event last April against fellow striker Kaitlin Young. Their close bout was declared a majority draw and set the stage for a rematch at Invicta FC 3 in October. Smith dominated in two rounds and won with relentless punches from mount position. After this win and another against her training partner Raquel "Rocky" Pennington at Invicta FC 4, Smith faced off against her toughest opponent to date at Invicta FC 5 when she fought former Strikeforce champion Kaufman. Although Kaufman was officially awarded a split decision, it was Smith who had the crowd's support for that three-round fight.
Maia (7-2-1) has had an exciting pro career thus far with four first-round victories in Brazil. She made her U.S. debut at Invicta FC 5 where she had a Unanimous Decision win. The winner of the Invicta FC 6 matchup between Smith and Maia will have the opportunity for a title shot against current Invcita FC World Flyweight Champion Barb Honchak of Bettendorf, Iowa. All in all, Invicta FC 6 is shaping up to be one hell of an exciting event in women's MMA!

Upcoming Fight

May 4: ”Little” Patricia Vidonic (7-5) moves up a weight class and faces off against Jessica “Black” Doerner (3-1) at Magic City Mayhem 2.
