| Tuff-N-Uff Festibrawl Results |
Tuesday, January 22, 2013 Article By Cynthia Vespia

Southpointe Casino came alive as once again the fighters from Tuff n Uff filled the arena for Festibrawl. The Fighter Girls female fight of the night did not disappoint as Raquel “Razor” Ramirez squared off against Kari Lichtenwalner. Even with Ramirez pressing the fight, Lichtenwalner rockedher early on with a string of vicious combinations, including a front teep thatdropped Ramirez to the ground. The second round also became a strong one for Lichtenwalner. Fighting out of Xtreme Couture the Las Vegas resident had her team in one corner and a little added encouragement from Kim Couture sitting cageside. Couture could be heard coaching Lichtenwalner, telling her to “gain control” and “strike first.” With thirty seconds left in the second round Lichtenwalner got full mount on Ramirez and finished her with punishing hammer strikes. “I’m so happy,” Kim Couture said of Lichtenwalner’s victory at the conclusion of the fight. “I’m impressed. Her striking looked good. Shelooked composed. I’m happy she switched over to Xtreme Couture.” Kim, who is coming off knee surgery, is looking to get back in the fight scene herself in a few short months. She and ex husband “TheNatural” Randy Couture were in good spirits, playfully taunting each other as Randy arrived to witness his stable of athletes in their respective bouts. This included an amazing showcase of heart and determination by Shane “Biggs”Johnson to pull out a victory over Fard “The Messenger” Muhammad to be crownedthe new light weight champion. Early on it appeared as though the taller Johnson haddifficulty against the speed and aggression of Muhammad. Johnson was able toget a full mount in round three, raining down hard strikes for over a full minute until time expired and it went into the judges hands. Johnson won unanimously and was awarded the title by Randy Couture himself. Johnson left onthe arms of his trainers, exhausted but happy to have the title. Other great bouts included the 135 lb tournament title fightwith Jesse “Habanero” Romero going against Donavon Frelow who had an entiresection of screaming fans all adorned in Frelow merchandise. If you blinked youwould’ve missed this fight. At :26 seconds into the first round Frelow hopped up on Romero with a guillotine choke that put the champ out and put the titleon Frelow. The main event did not disappoint either. Jeff “The Bullet”Roman took on Kawika Lagasca defending his title for the 170 lb class. These heavyweights came out swinging and stayed standing for the duration of thefight. It was only in the second round that Roman instigated a takedown whichled to a triangle choke on Lagasca and ultimately the victory.
Other results: Jesse “Big Foot” Cervantes v. Jayson Tu’ua Matagio A close first round but the newcomer Matagio was defeated by TKO Farley “F1” Thomas v. Regis Spicer You could tell early on that Farley has been schooled and schooled well. Fighting out of One Kick Nick gym in Las Vegas, Farley landed a trianglechoke on Spicer at the tail end of the third round. Farley takes the win on a judges split decision. John “Irish” Priest v. Deandre Marshall Doctors called the fight in favor of Marshall after a vicious groundand pound. Shane Shapiro v. Billy Dunmire In his debut fight Shapiro, fighting out of Cobra Kai in Las Vegas, won the crowd over early and almost took the match in the first round with a rearnaked choke. The second round proved more in his favor and he defeated Dunmirewith a north-south. A strong debut for Shapiro, this kid is hungry! Chris Gomez v. Shane “Soul Train” Benbow Champion (150 lb title) Gomez took control early on with strong takedowns and Muay Tai clinches.Gomez’ trainers from Wand Fight Team (Michael Costa and Mike Smith) were onpoint with their game calling out the most important tip of the night for thesefighters: “RELAX” After three rounds of action Gomez was awarded the title in a unanimousdecision. All in all a great night of fighting and the “fighter girls” were out in full force, not just in the ring but also spinning records at the DJ boothand representing our country as one of the female captains of the NationalGuard awarded one of the victors his medal.
