Both Erin Toughill and flyweight boxer Corina Moreno left the Tachi Palace Casino with victories Friday night, February 6th at the Shobox: The New Generation live event. The Best of Both Worlds event featured 10 boxing bouts and 7 MMA bouts, an action packed evening for fans of both sports.
Erin showed up in obvious great condition, weighing in at 148lbs. She defeated Karen Williams in 2:06 of Rd 1, after quick punishment with knees from a Muay Thai clinch and a sharp right hand that staggered Williams. Williams appeared to come out confident and ready to fight. She did what she could, but was obviously outmatched by Toughill’s strength and skill. Much respect to Williams for taking the fight on short notice.
Three time and current world champion flyweight boxer Carina Moreno defeated Las Vegas’ Sharon Gaines, winning by decision after 8 exciting 2 minute rounds. Moreno continuously pressed the action, chasing Gaines into the ropes, and drawing first blood with a left-right hook combo. Gaines has a lot of heart, but was overmatched by Moreno’s command of the ring. Moreno continues to have a huge following and is definitely a crowd favorite. Great job by all four women!!!!
Although several of the boxing bouts were featured live on Shobox, neither of the girls’ bouts were broadcast. It’s great to finally have women on the MMA card at Palace Fighting
Championship. Tachi Palace has been delivering top notch MMA and Boxing entertainment for years, and I’m sure we will continue to see quality matches in the future.
