TWO LLOYD IRVIN STUDENTS CHARGED WITH RAPING A TEAMMATE

Matthew Maldonado and Nicholas Schultz are being held without bail on rape charges after being caught on videotape “allegedly” raping a teammate on New Year’s Eve.

This incident has brought out information about a 1990 case possibly involving Lloyd Irvin himself, in which someone with the same name (including middle initial) who attended the same college at the same time as the martial arts instructor himself was involved with a gang rape, although he was acquitted on a technicality, due to impotence at the time of the attack.

Lloyd Irvin has responded to the incident by issuing a press release, purchasing the domain LloydIrvinRape.com, and putting out a press release on PRWeb for a rape prevention course he is teaching.

Maldonado and Schultz are being charged with 1st and 2nd degree sexual assault. According to legal documents found on DCcourts.gov, the two men were offered a pre-indictment plea bargain and are “exploring their offer.”

A preliminary hearing is scheduled to take place on Friday the 18th at 9:30 AM.

R.I.P.

It is with great sadness that we report that amateur MMA fighter Alex Sharum passed away on Wednesday due to an automobile accident. Sharum trained with Team R.O.C.K. out of Camden, Tennessee. She was only 21 years old. Our thoughts are with her friends and family.

FIGHT RESULTS

RFA 2: Yvel vs. Alexander featured two pro women’s bouts. Elaina Maxwell utilized her takedowns and ground control to defeat Ashley Sanchez via unanimous decision, and Tara LaRosa defeated Kelly Warren via armbar with just a second left in the third round. LaRosa started off slow, but showcased her sweeps and dominant positioning on the ground in 2 of the 3 rounds before sinking in the submission.

The bouts were streamed on Sherdog and unfortunately commentated by Frank Shamrock and Justin McCully (if commentating is the right term; perhaps “whining about fighters who are winning” and “telling stories about weight classes you used to fight in to a captive audience” would be more accurate.) Thankfully, color commentator Mauro Ranallo, who is a consummate professional and actually good at is job, did his level best to actually commentate and provide relevant information amidst the train wreck.

All four women missed weight due to a defective sauna located 3 miles away from the freezing ice rink where the weigh-ins were held. However, 30 other fighters all made weight under the same conditions, including amateur female fighters Elizabeth Phillips and Jessamyn Duke. The process would also cut into Young’s training, making it extremely difficult to cut weight, and the organization failed to provide information on how the fighter would arrive in Ufa, which is over 700 miles from Moscow.
