Alexis Davis Path 135 women’s championship # 10 ranked 135 pounder Alexis Davis hasn’t made things easy for herself on her way to making her dream of being in Strikeforce and rematching Sarah Kaufman come true.

Originally, she had been asked to be in the Freestyle Cage Fighting 135 pound Women’s Grand Prix, she had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts. She was given a second chance two weeks ago and jumped at the chance to face # 3 ranked Shayna Baszler this Saturday at the FCF Grand Prix Semi-finals. This after it was announced she would be defending her Raging Wolf title against former ranked competitor Elaina Maxwell this coming May.

Davis was on Fighter girls this week to talk about entering the Women’s Grand Prix this weekend and her tough matches ahead. She said she admires Baszler and her skills on the ground.

“She is one of my favorite fighters,” Davis admitted. “She can come up with these submissions. She’ll pull them out of her back pocket. You never know what’s coming. She’s going to keep you on your toes.”

Davis’s only two blemishes on her record were in her debut, losing via a third round TKO to # 1 ranked 135 pounder Sarah Kaufman, and a third round stoppage to # 3 ranked 125 pounder Tara LaRosa. Davis said she learned a lot from fight with LaRosa.

“I took that fight on two weeks notice as well,” stated Davis. “(I learned from) seeing when I push myself what I can do with such a great opponent. I was much more relaxed when I was at that point in my fighting career.”

Although she has a big title defense against Maxwell in May, Davis said she is focused on her match with Baszler. Taking on some of the best in the world, she hopes to make an impact and give Strikeforce notice that she is one of the top fighters in the 135 pound division.

“It’s not about the money. It’s about the recognition. ‘She’s a good fighter.’ That’s what I strive for; to be on the top; so everyone knows what I can do.”
