Cage Warriors Introduce Women’s Super Flyweight Title The 125-pound female MMA division now has a home with Cage Warriors. Since their return in the summer of last year Cage Warriors have been leading the way in Europe by pushing high level Female MMA bouts. During this time the CWFC has seen top 10 world ranked, domestic fighters Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton and Aisling “Ais the Bash” Daly return from fighting in the USA to battle international opposition at CWFC events in the UK and Ireland.

These contests took place in the Women’s Super Flyweight division (Set at 125lbs / 56.7kg) and broke the mould in the UK domestic scene as they were actively promoted as featured bouts and saw the former BodogFIGHT, EliteXC and Bellator FC veteran Rosi Sexton headline two consecutive events.

These fights not only received great exposure in the internet and print media but have also been broadcast on Television and Internet streams and have helped to shape a division which has been largely overlooked by some of the major promotions overseas.

As the Women’s MMA scene

Despite missing Gina Carano, arguably the most recognizable female MMA fighter. continued to shine throughout 2010 and during the first half of this year too. As Strikeforce continued to actively promote the 135 lbs and 145 lbs divisions thanks in-part to the likes of Marloes Coenen, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and others who have participated in numerous match-ups live on the Showtime Network in the USA.

Whilst Bellator thrust the Women’s 115 lbs division into the limelight with a stacked eight Woman tournament which saw Zoila Gurgel (Formally Frausto) walk away with their Title after ending the 22 fight unbeaten run of Japanese star Megumi Fujii after a tightly contested final last October.

This has left the 125 lbs Women’s division without the backing of a major International promotion, despite it having arguably the largest potential talent pool, as many 115 lbs and even 135 lbs fighters could theoretically compete in that division. As a result the management team behind the Cage Warriors fighting Championship headed by their Director Graham Boylan have decided to highlight this overlooked division by creating a Women’s Super Flyweight Title which will be contested on July 9th at the HMV Forum in London, England.

This is not the first time the Cage Warriors has had a Women’s Title,

As long time fans will remember the epic Title clash at ‘Night of Champions’ in November 2005, which saw Rosi Sexton defeat Dina Van Den Hooven in a bout set at 132 lbs / 60kg. However with that win Sexton then found herself fighting overseas and that division has now been largely superseded and the has not been officially mentioned by the CWFC team since it returned with a bang in October last year.

Now with a new Title come new possibilities, as already the CWFC team are looking for more female fighters to complete in the 125 lbs division and with the likes of Tara La Rosa, Cat Zingano, Jessica Eye, Barb Honchak riding high in the division alongside previous CWFC veterans Roxanne Modafferi, Sally Krumdiack, Aisling Daly, Rosi Sexton and Shelia Gaff the possibilities for future superfights inside the CWFC are wide ranging and exciting.

Graham Boylan, Director of the Cage Warriors Fighting Championships

Said “The NEW Cage Warriors brand is all about thinking outside the box, looking for gaps and filling them to cover everything MMA fans and fighters want.

The fighters and fans are passionate about this sport and so are we at Cage Warriors, eight months ago Cage Warriors was just a website and inactive on the promotion side of things, but look at us now!
