Elaina Maxwell Climbs MMA Ranking Where’s “The Beef” in the new Unified Rankings; plus a tough victory for the Little Warrior.

Elaina “Beef” Maxwell told us she has been training non-stop since her loss to Shayna Baszler. Looks like all those months of training paid off.

Maxwell defeated Shana Olsen at Crowbar MMA in North Dakota this past Friday, in what was a solid performance by both fighters.

The first round was on the feet as Olsen pressed a lot of the action. Maxwell was able to land some counters, but Olsen took the first.

The second round saw Maxwell take the upper hand on the ground, as she tried several submission attempts, including an inverted triangle, on Olsen. Maxwell landed several clean elbows and bloodied Olsen’s nose. The referee stood both competitors up, but it wasn’t long before Maxwell took down Olsen again and landed more elbows before the bell rang. Maxwell ties it up.

The third saw Olsen wanting to strike again, but Maxwell was able to counter punch effectively, with a right hook connecting. Maxwell landed a huge kick to the body, with Olsen exchanging leg kicks. Maxwell was able to catch a kick and trip Olsen back to the mat. Maxwell tried for a crucifix position then a kimura before settling to rain some body punches before the bell rang.

Maxwell defeated Olsen via unanimous decision (30-28, 29-28, 29-28) and improves to 5-4. Olsen gets her second straight loss. The win moved Maxwell to the #8 position in the 145 pound division on the Unified Rankings. Olsen, in turn, has dropped out of the top ten.

In the other women’s match on the card, #8 ranked 125 pounder Barb “The Little Warrior” Honchak fought a tough Nina Ansaroff in what was a very close fight. All three rounds were contested on the feet, as all of the rounds were up for grabs.

In the end, Honchak got the majority decision win over Ansaroff (29-28, 29-28, 29-29) and improves to 4-1 in what should be a great rematch sometime in the near future. Ansaroff suffers her second close loss in a row.

Honchak will be on the Fighter girls News on Wednesday.
