Fake Breasts Contemplated Combat Sports Let’s be honest, there is something different about grappling or sparring with someone who has larger-than-usual breasts. There are advantages and disadvantages on each side, but that is neither here nor there. The issue for Louisiana’s Boxing and MMA Commission is less concerned with functionality and more concerned with potential health hazards.

Granted, not all breast implants are completely cosmetic. Despite their reason for existence the argument is that they have a potential to burst during competition, which could be very dangerous for the competitor and expensive to repair. The red flag arose after a female competitor pulled out of a bout because she required surgery to repair her implants.
Some other athletic commissions already require a waiver in order to fight. Louisiana’s “Emergency Ban” on breast implants in combat sports remained active for 60 days while the commission gathered information about what other commissions are doing about the issue. That period has recently concluded and it will be interesting to see how the findings affect women’s MMA.
The ban has received an outcry of response from female competitors and fans proclaiming that Louisiana’s Commission is overreacting. Even the state’s medical advisor, Dr. Thomas Ferguson, agreed that ruptured implants are not a huge health risk, though he seems convinced that plastic surgeons will be unlikely to sign waivers releasing the breasts into the cage or ring. ”I don’t know of a single plastic surgeon who is going to allow his artistic work to be messed up,” he stated in an interview with The Times-Picayune.
So, is the issue actually health risk, financial hardship or damaged artwork?
