First, before I go on, I need to apologize for the complete crappiness of my camera. Some of these pictures should have been pitched but I wanted to keep a pic for every match.

First, when I got there I wondered, “Why is Greta all dolled up?”
I didn’t realize that she was starting her new career…Color Commentary. Move over Joe Rogan…Greta is in the house! 😉

Tanya Vlahac and Ginelle Marquez addressed the crowd at the start of the evening. I wished them both a speedy recovery and told Ginelle that I have been singing her praises ever since last Nov. I think she thought I was a stalker at first. 😈 I had a pic of Ginelle getting out of the ring but I tossed it because it did not fully represent the greatness that is…GINELLE MARQUEZ. 😉

    Kedzie vs Missy Karr

    https://www.fightergirls.com

Missy came out aggressive…but it was over very quick. Julie submits with Americana (Key Lock?). It was pretty bad. I winced when I saw how far her shoulder was torqued before she tapped.

**and yes, I had no good pictures of this bout, sorry.

    Jan Finney vs Mystee Blackwood
There is no way to discuss this fight with out sounding disrespectful. I would never intentional do that so I will leave out details. Lets just say the the Jan knocked her loopy in a matter of seconds. She could probably do the same to me and I’m a 200 lb. guy, Jan’s hands are amazing. Of everyone I have seen here in Evansville, I think she is the best boxer. I will never forget the Jan vs. Rikki display last Nov. (sorry Rikki)

    Kellyn Heuhn vs. Lisa Ward

I have never seen these two before. I was impressed with BOTH of them. Lisa did win by Guillotine in round 1. She is really good. Jeff announced that one of the first three losers was going to get a second chance and fight Molly in her round one fight. I knew right away that it should be Kelly. Of the three that lost, it was obvious that she was the most prepared for whatever Molly would throw athttps://www.fightergirls.com

    Heuhn vs Molly Helsel

Molly with the win…but I can’t remember how either or in what round. Kelly is definitly someone to watch for in the future.

    Kedzie vs. Finney

This was great!!! They were both so fit & well trained. There were people around my area saying stuff like, “Hey, are they sisters?”, “From back here they look like sisters” and “I’ve never seen sisters fight…are you sure they’re not sisters?”. I told Maura before it started, “Watch, Julie is going to try to clinch early and keep in tight the whole time.” I figured she was smart enough to know not to straight up box with Jan (Oh, those hands!). About midway through the first round, Julie pushed Jan back and opened up some space between them. I moaned, “No, no, no, you don’t want to do that.” Bam! Bam! She took some hard shots to the face. She immediately went back in tight and never voluntarily made space again. Two great rounds on both sides and Julie wins by Unanimous Decision.
Here is Julie getting some prefight advise:

    Helsel vs. Ward

Again, I can not stress this enough, Lisa Ward could be a future power in the sport. I was very impressed with her. Molly wins, I believe by TRIANGLE! (That was for Greta.) I don’t remember which round.

    Molly with the submission! https://www.fightergirls.com

    flashes the gold…

What a close match. I wasn’t suprised by Julie, I knew what to expect from her. I was most suprised by Molly. I never saw her go this long and hard before. She has EARNED much respect from both Maura and myself. At the end of the first round, Molly had the rear mount, with hooks in, and was starting on a Rear Naked Choke…and the bell rung to break it up. You never want to play the what if game but many thought Julie was saved by the bell. Both girls fought hard and NEVER slowed down. You couldn’t ask for a better fight. I’m glad I didn’t have to judge it. Hell, it was a split decision. Obviously, I would have had to go, 10-9 9-10 9-10, but which way…I will never tell 😛

One Note: (and this is not to take anything away from Julie) Molly’s coaches weren’t there. She had nobody. A local fighter stepped in to work her corner and help her out. He did a great job (thanx Heath) but I have to believe that it would have been better for her if her coach/trainers were there. Even with this, she almost prevailed, a testiment to how tough she is.

Congratulations Julie!!! Molly, Keep on Keeping on!!!

Sounds like a great tournament. Nice report/pics and congrats to all the fighters plus credit to Jeff’s initiatives. They do look like sisters as I thought the poster with Julie on it was actually Jan. It looks like a G’n’P finish in the Molly/kelly match. Next time yell, “Circle!” to really confuse everybody.

I really wanted to. I hate not getting to go to shows, let alone shows with women fights, let alone shows that are all women fights! Hopefully I can make it to the next one (though I’d like to be in it and not just watching it).

I hope Molly had a safe trip home.
    She flew out Monday.
    Has anyone heard from her?

Which side of the Date Line is Hawaii on?…maybe she’s still in the air, trapped in some sort of limbo universe. Odd? Yes, but compared to some of the unbelievable things I saw last weekend, Molly in the Twilight Zone would not be all that strange. 😆

I have to leave now…I need to go shee-shee. 😉
(I have to work on my Hawaii native jargon.)

    Aloha Everyone!

Yes, I am back in Hawaii safe and sound.

Although I do feel like I am in a parallel universe! 5 hour jet leg aint no joke! AND I get on another plane in a couple hours to go to the Big Island for turkey day.

Uh, Anthony – we are still on the AMERICAN side of the dateline! 😛

Just need to make sure and say to all the ladies that fought that night, the ones that didn’t and are still warriors, and to the people that welcomed us in Evansville – THANK YOU. You are all the bomb and it was truly an honor to be there and around such awesome and inspiring people.

Jule – you kick ass – I love you girl! Although we might look tougher if we didn’t say that between each round! 😛 Seriously, it was an honor to fight you and you are awesome. Same to Lisa and Kellyn, you ladies are warriors.

I will write more and share pics when I can start forming sentances again. I promise you this jet lag has made my brain mush!

Girl, I can’t even begin to express how much I love and appreciate knowing you and having the opportunity and honor of stepping in the ring with you. Thank you from the bottom’of my heart.

Thanks also to ALL the girls who fought, or showed thier support for this even. It was AWESOME getting to hang out with Ginele and get to know her better…and Tanya, you are a champion. Kellyn, thank you for stepping up to fight Molly when you did. God knows it wasn’t easy!

I love you guys. Let’s continue to show each other the support and repsect that we are capable of!

nothin to thank me for…it was awesome meeting all the girls and seeing julie again…
im a crappy loser i guess. i should have shaken more hands and everything…
i think the thing that bothered me the worst is that my dad had a ringside table and he was real sh*tty to me when i lost that first fight. he never comes to see me compete in anything, just win. it was weird…i should have gotten it together and come out to put on a better fight but i really wanted to go home at that point. im over it though, im fighting again december 17th…i figure im in shape now so theres no logic in waiting another 3 or 4 months to fight. i just feel bad about not being nicer to lisa or molly.
however, all the fights were awesome, and i was happy to know that people are not only going to see me get beat up, but also that womens fighting really IS technical. real stuff was going down in that ring instead of a bunch of has-been strippers slugging it out.
kudos to all the girls….ill be back 😈

    this just in…

Even after all this time, Maura is still self-conscious about being called a “referee” and has sworn that she will never wear that shirt again.

Greta is truely a servant of evil. 😈
