In an interesting contrast of expirience, a tag team match (under DEEP rules) has been added to the card. Shiho Yamato and Taeko Nagamine will do battle with Misaki Takimoto and Mari Kaneko. Yamato made a somewhat impressive debut in the sport taking on arguably the best female fighter in the world in Satoko Shinashi on DEEP’s 24th Impact card. She gave Shinashi a tough fight in the first round landing strikes and scoring a takedown, but succumbed to the vastly more expirienced fighter’s trademark armbar in the second round. Taeko Nagamine won her debut, on the other hand, against the heralded women’s BJJ player, Yasuko Mogi, on a split decision on Smackgirl’s 4/22 card. Both fighters hail from the Zendokai Hiroshima gym.

Mari Kaneko is mostly known for giving Satoko Shinashi arguably the toughest fight of her career back in February of 2005 on DEEP’s 18th Impact card, in which not 1 of the fight’s two rounds of high-level grappling could be said to have dominantly gone one way concluding in a unanimous draw. The first round of their rematch July on DEEP’s 19th Impact card looked to be more of the same. However, this time around Kaneko seemed to have lost her edge in the second round, allowing Shinashi to dominate and take home a unanimous decision.

Misaki Takimoto is coming off of a loss to Megumi Fujii in which the two engaged in a strong and competitive ground fight, but Fujii was always just one step ahead and had the fight stopped due to a technical submission by armbar. Before this, Takimoto had stopped the white-hot 48kg rookie superstar MIKU Matsumoto in her tracks on G-Shooto’s december card in 2005, submitting her by armbar in the first round. Both Takimoto and Kaneko fight out of the main Zendokai gym.

yeah I was impressed with shinashi’s opponent.

Is tag team really pro fighting, or considered something else? how does it work?

Its a tag match, but don’t think its worked. Its very much real fighting. ZST was pulling a lot of these back in its golden era. The classic Remigijus Morkevicius and Mindaugas Smirnovas vs. Takumi Yano and Masakazu Imanari is just must-see
