When Gina Carano was asked by members of the media, if she was concerned about making weight for this Saturdays Elite XC nationally televised event, she stated that she enjoyed the weight cutting process, and was looking to be within 5-6lbs of the 140lb contracted weight class for the fight against Kaitlin Young. “The plan is to be within 5-6lbs of the weight the week I get into New Jersey” Carano said during the conference call with the media a month before the fight. “I actually enjoy the weight cutting process.” Carano also told members of the media at the conference call that she has never had a fight canceled because she has not made weight. At the time of the press conference she was feeling strong, and stated that making weight “wasn’t going to be
a problem”
Things didn’t go exactly as planned. Carano weighed in at 144.5lbs at Friday’s weigh in. While Young weighed in at 140.5 According to the New Jersey State Athletic Commission, Carano will be penalized 12.5 percent of her purse (which will be given to Young) for not making weight. According to multiple reports, both camps had been aware that Carano was not going to make weight before the weigh in and had agreed that the fight would still take place.
