Kaitlin Young vs. Shana Olsen On December 11, 2009, the much anticipated fight of Kaitlin Young vs. Shana Olsen took place at Treasure Island Resort and Casino in Welch, Minnesota.

A veteran of promotions such as Bodog, Strikeforce, and Elite XC, Young’s last bout was against Gina Carano in 2008, at which time Young (4-2) faced a defeat due to a doctors stoppage at the end of the second round. Almost two years later, Young decided she was ready to get back into the cage to take on an undefeated up-and-comer: Shana Olsen (2-0).

During the first round of the fight, the two women clinched, while Young delivered a number of unanswered knees to the midsection. Olsen was eventually able to break free and deliver a few strikes herself before the round ended. Young’s aggressiveness and striking seemed to take Olsen a bit by surprise during the round, but this wouldn’t last for much longer.

The second round brought about a surprising turn of events. Looking bloodied and determined, Young and Olsen both came out of their corners to exchange strikes with one another. Olsen eventually took Young down to the ground, and with punches and elbows, ended the fight with a TKO at 1:52 of the second round.

Despite being the less experienced fighter, Olsen showed her skills in the cage. When asked what she hoped would be next for her, Shana announced to the crowd that she felt she was ready for a bigger promotion and bigger names to fight. “I’m a fighter,” she said, “It’s my life. It’s what I live for.”
