Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate Women’s MMA While Ronda Rousey’s 4 fight record in MMA does not put her in position to fight a title bout against Miesha Tate, there have been some very viable arguments as to why Rousey’s title match may be a positive direction for women’s MMA.
“Women’s MMA will not be considered legitimate until people like Olympic Medalists Ronda Rousey and Sarah McMann make their impact on the sport, and the sooner the better.”

While this statement is not necessarily true, women’s MMA is 100% legitimate, a good point is underlying. Clearly Sarah Kaufman has earned her spot to be the next in line to fight for the Strikeforce Bantamweight belt. But Ronda Rousey is not the first person to talk her way to a title fight. Brock Lesnar was 2-1 when he fought and beat Randy Couture. The point being made here is that having Olympian or professional athletes compete in our MMA divisions has shown to only legitimatize the sport and the level of athletes in the sport.

“On the men’s side there have been professional boxers, kickboxers, Sambo World Champions, Olympians, Olympic Medalists, Olympic Champions and World Champion Black Belt BJJ players who have won and have lost in MMA competition which has provided enough varying levels of differentiation in terms of style to allow the viewer to say, “Yes, you may have won in XYZ sport, but that doesn’t mean you will win in MMA.”

Regardless of the fairness, March 3rd will be an exciting fight and may provide some ‘legitimacy’ for those who don’t believe in women’s MMA.
