SAN DIEGO (Aug. 17, 2012) – All fighters participating in Saturday’s STRIKEFORCE World Championship telecast made weight on Friday, just one day before they step into the cage at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, Calif., live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).
Women’s mixed martial arts (MMA) sensation Ronda Rousey (5-0), of Venice, Calif., will defend her STRIKEFORCE Bantamweight World Championship against former titleholder Sarah Kaufman (15-1), of British Columbia, Canada, in the SHOWTIME main event.
In the co-feature, former STRIKEFORCE titleholder Jacare Souza (15-3, 1 NC), of Brazil, will take on middleweight Derek Brunson (9-1), of Albuquerque, N.M.
In other fights on SHOWTIME: Tarec Saffiedine (12-3), of Temecula, Calif., will square off with fellow welterweight Roger Bowling (11-2), of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lumumba Sayers (6-2), of Denver, Colo., will face Anthony Smith (16-7), of Orange, County, Calif., at middleweight and former University of Tennessee football player Ovince Saint Preux (11-5), of Knoxville, Tenn., will battle T.J. Cook (12-4), of Ocala, Fla., at light heavyweight. Additional preliminary bouts will air on SHOWTIME EXTREME beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
