Shines Her Skills Jennifer “The Razor” Barber Two ladies fought hard last night at the Irvine Marriott’s Battle in the Ballroom”: Northridge’s Jennifer “The Razor” Barber (8-1, 4 Kos) and Santa Ana’s Gloria Ramirez (10-15-7). Barber, who is the current NABF Featherweight Champion, won by an unanimous decision over Ramirez, with the final tally of 59-55, 59-54, and 60-54. The crowd cheered on as Barber displayed impeccable technique, versatility and uncanny persistence by overpowering her opponent throughout the bout.

Barber, wearing her signature glitzy pink shorts-skirt “BARBER RAZOR,” started off with a series of relentless ambushing attacks, including confident and well-trained jabs combinations, leaving Ramirez no choice but to mostly defend for the first three rounds. However, Ramirez proved to be formidable opponent after all. In the last three rounds, Ramirez regained her concentration, surprising Barber with a series of powerful and consistent punches and counterattacks.
The fight intensified in the second half of the bout, when both girls stepped up their game. But, in the end, Barber’s spectacular speed, combined with her well-coordinated offense, prevailed over methodical and focused Ramirez.

This is a great result for Barber, who is a rookie pro boxer. She recently lost her first fight as a pro against France’s Myriam Chomaz for the junior lightweight world title. Ramirez, by now, is a veteran of 33 pro fights. Her most recent record includes a hard-fought draw against another talented pro boxer, Rhonda Luna. No doubt fans are hungry to see these girls on the ring again.
