Stephanie Eggink Fights Heather Clark Heather Clark and Stephanie Eggink fought last night as the feature bout at XFC 21: Night of Champions II.  All three rounds contained a mix of standup and ground work, with Eggink pulling guard in round one and making an armbar submission attempt that was cut short by the end of the round.

Round two saw more submission attempts by Eggink that Clark wouldn’t tap to. Eggink was also strong in round two’s standup and landed several hard hits. Eggink showed some ground and pound in round three, and both fighters landed some great punches.

Judges scored the bout 29-28, 30-27, and 30-27, for Eggink.
In her post-fight interview with Pat Militich, Eggink called out Felice Herrig for her next fight. When asked by Fightergirls afterwards why she wanted to fight Herrig, Eggink said “before this fight, Heather [Clark] was looking past me to fight Herrig, like she was a more worthy opponent. That’s one reason. Herrig is the next stepping stone. Plus she’s a little… well we’ll just leave it at that.”

Fightergirls asked Eggink about what her plan had been for the fight. “I pulled guard which I didn’t intend to do. I’ve been working on not pulling guard. I made some submission attempts and the bell saved
her a couple of times. Boxing is my bread and butter, so that was a big part of the plan too.”

Eggink moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to train for this fight. When Fightergirls asked if she was going to change training camps for her next fight, Eggink replied “not at all. This camp was awesome. It completely changed my game. I’ve been working a lot on wrestling with Shayna [Baszler]; who knows, if I keep working with her I may be a catch wrestler!” Eggink’s post-fight plans include getting back into the gym to help get Shayna Baszler ready for Invicta FC 4, where Baszler will be fighting Alexis Davis.

Heather Clark Female Fighter

When asked if there was any bad blood between her and Eggink, Clark said “no. We are in [the cage] to put on a show, to fight. It’s a game. In the end, if we both come out injury-free, it’s ideal for both of us. Plus, it’s a small world. Shayna [Baszler], who is here with Stephanie, fought my teammate [Julie] Kedzie. We were talking about that at the pre-fight meeting earlier.”

Clark’s post-fight plan is to get back in the gym as soon as possible to help teammates get ready for fights on January 5th. When asked by Fightergirls if she plans to continue fighting in the XFC, she replied “absolutely. They [the XFC] promote their fighters and treat you well. They treat women fighters in general well and really promote women’s MMA. Plus the XFC has big things coming up. It’s a great place to be right now.”
