United Training Center Rocks Washington MMA Fighter Lisa Ward brings her brand of toughness to the Northwest.

I have had several occasions to visit Olympia, Washington’s United Training Center, and the most recent was this past weekend on November 27th and 28th. This was both a business and pleasure trip for me as I sponsor the co-owners of the Gym, Lisa Ward and her fiancé Eddy Ellis.

They were hosting a charity toy drive / MMA event Saturday night, United Fight Night 7, so Molly and I went up to help out, bring toys, and watch the fights. Lot’s of great action on the all amateur card, including a tag team grappling match which I had never seen before, but it provided for 5 minutes of the most intense grappling I have ever seen! All of the fights were great, and the crowd enjoyed every minute of it. If you get a chance to go to one of the United Fight Nights, it’s a blast, and I highly recommend it!

The gym itself is a pretty new facility, and is in great shape with easy access and great parking. Lisa and Eddy were pretty busy and I honestly forgot to ask how many square feet it is, so I will shoot a WAG and say it looks like it’s approximately 3500 – 4500 square feet of combined mat, ring, and equipment area. The gym has all new training equipment as well as a real nice elevated ring that they just upgraded in the last 45 days. I have been to the gym probably 5 times in the last 8 months, and it has always been spotless, and I would consider it to be one of the nicer gyms I have been too.

Lisa and Eddy put on a variety of classes for people of all levels and ages. The classes range from Muay Thai Kickboxing, No-Gi Grappling, MMA Core –Fit, children’s MMA, and personal one on one lesson’s for self defense and MMA. I have seen a couple of classes in person and both Lisa and Eddy seem to be very knowledgeable instructors that not only describe techniques to you, but also, show you how to use them in an effective manner, as well as counter act them which is very beneficial as well. I even got to sit in on one of the children’s MMA class, and watch Lisa crack the whip on the kids. That was great, everybody was having a blast! I even had a good time watching and I am allergic to kids!

Well, since this is my first gym right up or reviews I have no ranking system, but will approach it the following way. The gym and equipment are clean and in great shape. The instructors are very knowledgeable and effective in getting their point across. The available curriculum covers a little of everything. The operating hours for the gym makes it accessible to just about anybody. All in all I would give it two thumbs up!
