Evenger was a member of the all female national freestyle wrestling team. She trained on site for the team at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. for the past year. In a brief conversation with her she shared with Fightergirls that she couldn’t really take her passion of competition to another level.
“I could stay with it but it was basically a dead-end street for me. The MMA scene for women seems to be gaining some momentum. It is extremely popular in Asia. I have been training in California with a group of female athlete’s on my stand-up. I am hoping to utilize my wrestling background with the stand-up and jiu-jitsu and hopefully become a reputable force in the sport.”
When I asked her about how she felt about fighting Pullen in the WCF she responded,”She didn’t come in to the fight being in the best of shape, in fact there was some concern as to whether she would participate. I’m just going to go out there and do my best to make it entertaining and get the win. You never know though.” Evenger did in fact get the win in a convincing fashion, completely dominating Pullen both standing up and on the ground. She came out in the first round composed and accurate. Throwing jabs and rights.

She then took Pullen down to the ground, pinning her to the cage and proceeded to issue an onslaught of ground and pound. Amazingly, in a moment of pure grace, Pullen was able to make her way up to her feet which proved to be the beginning of the end. Evinger threw a left that knocked Pullen off balance, which immediately left her open to a right hook that spun her completely around. Pullen was forced to retreat to the cage wall where Evinger closed in with a barrage of combinations that were worthy of reflection to Liddell and Ortiz. Pullen sunk to her knees completely unconscious.
Dave Hagen stopped the fight and Pullen was able to stand where she retreated to the physician. Evenger stood with her hand raised with a modest, almost shy smile on her face. It was by far succeeding in her wanted accomplishment to entertain the crowd. Tonya has a lot to work on, but what she needs to work on the most is the feeling and familiarity of victory. That is the only area I could see where she fell short.
